The holiday season can get crazy-busy with all the activities. From gift-finding, gift-wrapping, parties to attend or host, travel and places to be. All happening while there's lots of rich, sugary … [Read More...]
I became an over-weight, over-stressed, over-fatigued insomniac with brain fog, anxiety, cravings, strange fainting spells and other symptoms that I didn’t understand. My quality of life suffered. But I accepted those symptoms as part of getting older; just look at all of the ads on TV with people and their health issues!
When I started to have trouble with anxiety, my doc wrote me a prescription. More symptoms led to more prescriptions. Shut down your stomach acid, calm down your heart, and take this steroid.
Dr: “Do you need help getting to sleep?”
Me: “No, I crash when I finally get into bed; but I wake up in the middle of the night and THEN I can’t fall back to sleep.”
I eventually learned to sleep sitting up to keep the stomach acid down.
I felt lousy and I was scared. That New Year’s Eve, I vowed to eat less pasta and more vegetables because it seemed like the right thing to do. Maybe it would help with my weight too.
I was losing my health & needed to make some changes!
I learned about the concept of self–care and wellness, and met other like-minded people. Boy, did I get hooked! Soon I was reading piles of books, trying tasty new foods, attending classes, and studying privately with various wellness professionals.
I started my wellness journey to feel better, and found that I began losing weight. My colleagues wondered what diet du jour I was on. What they didn’t realize is that I was eating like a horse and had lost weight effortlessly. Biggest Loser(R) THIS!
At my annual physical, my doctor roared into the exam room, my lab results in his hand, and challenged me:
Dr: “What are you doing?”
Me: “What’s wrong?”
Dr: “Nothing! Listen to these changes since your last physical.”
Lost 18 pounds of excess weight
(Though my final weight loss was 23 pounds)
LDL Cholesterol (the bad kind) was down 28 points
“Textbook perfect” blood pressure of 120/70
It wasn’t all good though. I was feeling and looking better, but my stress level still soared.
I had nailed the importance of good food, but still needed to manage my overall lifestyle. I learned that:
Healthy Food + Healthy Lifestyle = Wellness!
But I also needed an implementation plan so I could remain successful and not sabotage myself.
Healthy Food + Healthy Lifestyle + Implementation Plan
= Long Term Wellness!
I am certified with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in NYC, the world’s largest nutrition school and I am a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
